A BGY Airport Granfondo Increasingly Women-Friendly
On International Women’s Day, the Bergamo-based Granfondo presents a series of initiatives reaffirming its commitment to being an event tailored for women. Plus, on March 8, all female cyclists can register for free!
The headquarters of Sacbo S.p.A., the management company of Milan Bergamo Airport and the main sponsor of the BGY Airport Granfondo, hosted today’s press conference to unveil the special initiatives planned for International Women’s Day – March 8, 2025. These initiatives aim to highlight the role and contributions of women in cycling, sports, society, and the workplace.
This event, strongly supported by the Granfondo’s organizers, partners, and local institutions, was an opportunity to introduce new women-focused projects and showcase the teamwork behind the 2025 edition of the BGY Airport Granfondo, set to take place on May 4 in Bergamo under the auspices of the Italian Cycling Federation.
The conference saw the participation of key authorities, including Sacbo S.p.A. President Giovanni Sanga, alongside a strong female presence: Amelia Corti, General Director of Sacbo S.p.A.; Giorgia Gandossi, Councilor of the Province of Bergamo; Lara Magoni, Member of the European Parliament and Provincial Delegate of CONI; and Federica Picchi, Regional Delegate for Sport in Lombardy, who joined via video call.
The official slogan for this year’s International Women’s Day campaign is “Ride Without Brakes, Ride Without Heels.” The graphic design features two road bike brakes that also resemble high heels, symbolizing a stylish touch of femininity.
A conference and a series of initiatives dedicated to women – designed for women – demonstrate the strong commitment of BGY Airport Granfondo to gender inclusion. Since its very first edition in 1996, the event has always welcomed female cyclists, reinforcing its identity as a truly women-friendly competition.
During the press conference, a special brochure was also presented, entirely dedicated to the increasing presence of women in cycling and the Granfondo scene. It includes key statistics, insights, and inspiring stories, with a particularly engaging section celebrating female Granfondo workers.
The BGY Airport Granfondo is launching several initiatives in support of women. These range from symbolic gestures – such as a red bench displayed during the event to raise awareness about gender-based violence – to more concrete actions, such as a major announcement for all female cycling enthusiasts: on March 8, women can register for free between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM, both online on the official event website and at the event’s office.
On the same day, the event will also mark the beginning of a new collaboration between BGY Airport Granfondo and the Museo del Ghisallo, featuring a special event dedicated to women in cycling. Former world champion Nicole Cooke will be a special guest at the museum.
The message that BGY Airport Granfondo aims to convey through these initiatives is clear: increasing the number of female cyclists is not just a matter of social justice and equal opportunities – it is also a crucial factor for development and national interest, impacting various aspects of life.
For nearly 30 years, BGY Airport Granfondo has been championing this cause, and in 2025, it will do so once again, bringing its vibrant celebration of cycling back to the roads of Bergamo on May 4.
