From the “bike-friendly” airport to GF Gimondi start straight through!

Thanks to the new cycle-pedestrian path realized available at Orio al Serio airport, it will be possible to ride straight to the start of the event in the heart of Bergamo next May 8th

From this year’s edition of the Granfondo Internazionale Felice Gimondi – Bianchi, scheduled for Sunday, May 8th, it will be possible to reach the start riding right after getting off the plane. Thanks to the new cycle-pedestrian ring winding around Orio al Serio airport, it only takes 5 km to get by bike in the heart of Bergamo, where the start of the race is set, as usual, in Via Marzabotto.

Indeed, the international hub managed by SACBO spa has been declared Europe’s first bike-friendly airport. The award – assigned by ECF (European Cyclist Federation) and delivered lately by FIAB (Italian Federation for the Environment and Bike) – is due not only to the cycle-pedestrian ring but also to the several activities powered by the company in everyday life, such as bike to work, which is possible thanks to a network of services ranging from bike rental to maintenance, and which have earned SACBO the title of CFE, Cycle Friendly Employer.

The benefits of this new facility will also affect tourism, as the whole sector consistently shifted to two-wheel solutions in recent years. Furthermore, Bergamo is strengthening its bond with the bike world even more through the cycle-path connected to Brescia, to celebrate the two cities that will be Italian Capitals of Culture in 2023.

HOW TO REACH THE GRANFONDO GIMONDI

The event in Bergamo, whose starting point is located in Via Marzabotto near the Gewiss Stadium, can be reached by all means of transport: besides the plane, the car (via the A4 Milan-Venice motorway, exit Bergamo), the train (which goes straight to the city centre), and finally the bus with direct connections from Milan with the Bus Autostradale and Nord Est Trasporti lines.

REGISTRATIONS CLOSING SOON

As the deadline to renew the registration for the two editions cancelled in 2020 and 2021 expired on January 31st, those who still wish to participate will have to register from scratch.

The entries for the event scheduled on Sunday 8th May must be submitted no later than Saturday 16th April 2022: the available routes are the three traditional ones designed by Felice Gimondi himself, with the short one of 89,4 km (1.400 m elevation gain), the intermediate one of 128,8 km (2.100 m elevation gain) and the long one of 162,1 km (3.050 m elevation gain). The tariffs are 46,00 euro for the classic registration and 84,00 euro if including the exclusive jersey of Sedrinese, the first historical club of Felice Gimondi, realized in limited edition by Santini sportswear.

The 2022 edition will be open to all types of bikes, both muscular and electric: for the debut of this category called GIM (Green is Magic), only the short course is available.

In addition, for clubs wishing to register more than one athlete, an individual form must be completed for each of them, but it is still possible to register them in a single cumulative submission.
