BGY Airport Granfondo: many partners and great attention to sustainability

The BGY Airport Granfondo, together with its partners, continues to pay great attention to the issue of environmental sustainability. The event that will once again colour the streets of the city and province of Bergamo on Sunday, 5 May 2024 is also an example for this topic.

Thanks to the renewed collaboration with Uniacque and Sarco Toyota, two realities with common roots in the Bergamo area, the consumption of plastic and fuel during the event will in fact be limited, and sustainable habits will be provided to participants and staff.

A choice that gives continuity to the path of promoting soft mobility, which has always been one of the objectives of the Granfondo di Bergamo. EcoZones will be set up at each refreshment point along the route for the collection of waste of all kinds – water bottles, snacks, etc. – and indicated by special banners. In addition, potable water usage will be encouraged, with a reduction in plastic water and fuel used for its transportation. The event joined the Uniacque campaign called “Acqua Eco Sport” and the “Gruppo Water Alliance” in fact, hence the transport and use of as many as 18 pallets of plastic bottled water will be saved.

Indeed, this project, born in 2017 and built around the three concepts – Water, Eco-Friendly and Sport – wants to raise awareness around “care, attention and respect for the water supply, a primary and precious asset, human wellbeing and health, and the environmental quality for a sustainable future”, and is aimed at “promoting and supporting sports initiatives in line with the concept of environmental sustainability”.

Another important initiative has been developed together with the Sarco Toyota car dealership, whose electric cars will accompany the event for the first time, to ensure assistance and the regular running of all operations.

The BGY Airport Granfondo has also implemented a dedicated section on the official website www.granfondobgy.it, and on the ‘Evento Green‘ page it is possible to find a series of good eco-sustainable habits to be used in various spheres, not only during the event but also in everyday activities, ranging from reducing the use of paper to making a conscious choice of food and drink, preferring local and seasonal products.

EVE AT “SANTINI’S HOME”

As already announced in the past months, the new headquarters of the event, which on Saturday 4th May will host the distribution of numbers and race packs, the Expo Village, the press room and the secretariat, will move from Lazzaretto in Bergamo to the new city headquarters of Santini, in via Zanica 14, in the Malpensata district.

The company’s new headquarters will open its doors to the thousands of cyclists and fans who will reach the city of Bergamo for the event. With a large and comfortable indoor and outdoor area and pleasant green spaces that will welcome the Expo Village with the exhibition stands of the Granfondo’s partners, it will be an eve day to be lived intensely. The area will be open to the public and participants on Saturday 4 May from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. There will also be entertainment and refreshment areas for guests and the public. On Sunday, 5 May, it will then be the traditional Lazzaretto di Bergamo area, near the start and finish line in Via Marzabotto, which will once again be colourful and light up the BGY Airport Granfondo 2024 party.
