The safety of our event and the protection of all participants, visitors, and residents are a top priority for the Granfondo.
In collaboration with the Bergamo Police Headquarters and all local police departments along the route, operational procedures are constantly reviewed and updated to ensure full compliance with best practices in safety management.
The Granfondo is monitored by specialized personnel (DCR-DCI-DCP-ASA-SM-STC-ASTC) and, most importantly, by law enforcement agencies through a coordinated control plan that also includes preventive measures not always visible to the public.
Technical Coordination Committees will also be convened at the Prefecture and Police Headquarters to anticipate and analyze any potential organizational or safety needs, as well as traffic-related issues.
All staff operate in close contact with the Bergamo Police Headquarters and remain constantly connected via radio and dedicated communication channels to ensure an immediate and continuous information flow.
The presence of law enforcement during the event ensures that all activities run smoothly, guaranteeing a safe and peaceful environment for everyone.
Road User Safety
The Granfondo BGY, in collaboration with local authorities, implements specific information and prevention measures. At least 30 days before the Granfondo BGY, hundreds of information signs are installed indicating road closures and traffic changes, in order to minimize inconvenience and ensure smooth traffic management. During the event, dedicated teams of staff and law enforcement officers will be stationed at key locations to provide assistance, information, and support to the public. Operational personnel are trained to identify potential difficulties or individuals in need of help, ensuring prompt and discreet intervention.
Participant Responsibilities
Participants in the BGY Granfondo are also called upon to actively contribute to the overall safety of the event. Each participant is required to:
- be thoroughly familiar with the road conditions and route characteristics;
- check the visibility conditions expected for the day and time of the event, taking any necessary precautions in case of low light;
- assess their own riding skills, adjusting speed and behavior according to the circumstances;
- keep their bicycle in perfect working order, paying particular attention to tires, wheels, and braking system;
- ensure they have full control and readiness in using the brakes;
- maintain a high level of diligence and caution throughout the event, in compliance with the Highway Code and the instructions provided by the organizers and law enforcement.
Participants are also strongly advised not to allow anyone to follow or accompany them along the route, as this could create additional risks and compromise the overall safety of the event.
Likewise, riders are asked not to “team up” with cyclists without race numbers (non-registered riders), as these individuals are not part of the official event and are taking advantage of an environment organized exclusively for registered participants (in fact, this constitutes a violation of the Highway Code if it causes danger or obstructs traffic).
The conscious and responsible cooperation of every participant is an essential part of the safety measures and plays a decisive role in ensuring the success of the event.
