BGY Airport Granfondo 2026: Save the Date – May 10. Bib Number 183 Retired in Memory of Michele Negri

Official date announced: the Bergamo granfondo returns on 10 May with a special gesture in memory of Michele Negri.

With the release of the 2025–2026 Serie A calendar, the official date for the next edition of the BGY Airport Granfondo has also been confirmed: the event will take place on Sunday, May 10, 2026, once again in Bergamo – a city with a deep-rooted cycling tradition and a land of strong emotions on two wheels.

The announcement of the date comes with a symbolic gesture of profound emotional and human value. Starting in 2026, the organizing committee has decided to retire bib number 183 in memory of Michele Negri, the young cyclist from Milan who tragically passed away following an accident during the most recent edition of the Granfondo.

It is a simple yet deeply meaningful gesture, aimed at honoring his memory and expressing, once again, the organization’s closeness to his family and to all those who loved him. Michele had a deep passion for cycling, just like the many riders who every year choose to ride through the stunning landscapes of the Bergamo province.

This is not the first time the event has chosen to symbolically retire a race number to honor the memory of a special person. In 2004, bib number 50 was retired in memory of Davide Fardelli, an entrepreneur and passionate cyclist who passed away prematurely in a road accident. In 2022, the number 1 was retired as a tribute to Felice Gimondi, a timeless icon of Italian cycling and a historical symbol of the Granfondo.

These small but powerful gestures reflect the true spirit of the BGY Airport Granfondo – an event that puts people and their connection to the bicycle at its heart, even when time seems to stand still.
