BGY Airport Granfondo: Saturday with Santini Cycling and Sunday on the Roads of Bergamo. A Weekend Not to Be Missed
A full day of engaging side events on the eve of the race, with a focus on culture and health promotion. On Sunday, Bergamo and its valleys will welcome over 2,000 cyclists representing 36 different nations.
An entire city ready to welcome cyclists, fans, and families for a weekend dedicated to sport, togetherness, and two wheels. On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May, Bergamo becomes the beating heart of cycling thanks to the BGY Airport Granfondo – an event that combines the beauty of the territory, the adrenaline of competition, and a rich program of side events. The organizers have announced that this 27th edition of the Granfondo will be dedicated to Pope Francis.
The weekend kicks off on Saturday 3 May with a special program hosted at the Santini Cycling headquarters—a day designed to immerse yourself in the world of cycling, meet key figures, discover new trends, take part in exclusive activities, and enjoy the pre-race atmosphere. Various brands will showcase their products, and visitors will also have the chance to test-ride 3T Bikes on display.
Sunday 4 May is race day: over 2,000 cyclists from 36 countries around the world are expected to line up at the start to experience the thrill of the BGY Airport Granfondo, riding through breathtaking landscapes and along roads steeped in history and effort.
A “village Saturday”… on two wheels!
On the eve of the BGY Airport Granfondo, Saturday 3 May, the Santini Cycling headquarters will turn into a space of stories, books, and cycling passion. A special day for those who tell the story of cycling and sport through words and images, with discussions also focusing on nutrition and health. All in anticipation of Sunday’s big event.
Here is the lineup of talks:
- 3:30 PM – Giacomo Pellizzari, author and self-proclaimed “dangerous cyclist,” presents Itinerario felice, a journey from Bergamo to Brescia following the trail of Felice Gimondi.
- 4:30 PM – Paolo Marabini, journalist for Gazzetta dello Sport, takes us through the Bolis book series: stories of the Olympics, cycling, and sport as a school of life.
- 5:30 PM – Federico Biffignandi and Alessandro Vanotti present Gregario, exploring the generous soul of cycling from an insider’s perspective.
- 6:30 PM – Walter Cerutti, videomaker and runner, takes us behind the camera lens in a journey of sport, emotions, and endurance—from Pogacar to Sofia Goggia.
Food and Health
Throughout the afternoon, there will be dedicated spaces focusing on food, sport, and health, aimed at promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among cyclists and fans. The initiative aligns with campaigns by the Regione Lombardia on Food and Health and Sport and Health, supporting public health promotion in Lombardy.
The focus will be on the importance of eating fruits, vegetables, and legumes, and encouraging dietary variety. The link between nutrition and sport will be emphasized as fundamental to everyone’s life.
An active lifestyle is one of the best tools for preventing many diseases. Regular physical activity helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, prevents cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, and osteoporosis, and contributes to psychological well-being by reducing anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation.
Furthermore, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes helps prevent various illnesses –especially certain types of cancer and cardiovascular diseases – while also supporting healthy weight management.
