From Monday it will be possibile to book a spot in the front grids at the 23rd Granfondo Internazionale Felice Gimondi Bianchi on May 5th, 2018, dedicated to the “magnificent 7” riders who managed to win the triple crown: Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana
On the footsteps of the seven “giants” who managed to complete the Grand Slam winning Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana at least once in their career. The first of the “magnificent” seven champions, whose deeds contributed to get generations of fans to fall in love with cycling, was Jacques Anquetil, the last one was Chris Froome in 2018. “Tribute to the Magnificent 7” is the headline chosen by the organizers of Granfondo Felice Gimondi Bianchi to celebrate the giants of the Grand Slam, whose club includes Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Alberto Contador and Vincenzo Nibali, besides Felice Gimondi, who celebrated the “triple crown” at the Vuelta 1968, after the triumphs at Tour (1965) and Giro (1967). The event, to be held on Sunday May 5th, 2019 in Bergamo, is opening entries on Monday November 5th.
From Monday at 9:00 am CET, the GF Gimondi lovers will have the opportunity to book a spot in the front grids: registrations will be open through the official website www.felicegimondi.it, by filling the online form, as well as at the G.M.S. main office in Via G. Da Campione, 24/c – 24124 Bergamo (tel. +39 035.211721 – fax + 39 035.4227971).
“The tribute to the ‘magnificent seven’ who have achieved at least one victory in each of the three grand tours over the course of their careers, celebrates a feat that even its protagonists manage to fully understand and appreciate after several years. We dedicate the new edition to these seven giants without any need to choose who of them was the greatest, though it would be hard to argue against Eddy Merckx. However, we belong to different eras, making it tough to compare. What really counts is that completing such a hat-trick is still a goal that defines a career, and that applies to all seven of us. That’s why we dedicated our Granfondo to this company as a whole,” Felice Gimondi explained.
From November 5th, 2018 to March 31, 2019 the entry fee is 36 euros, including front and rear race number, magazine/schedule, information material, subscriptions, timing service, TDS timing chip, memory medal (after the finish), proof of participation, parta party voucher, parta party plus one voucher, medical and mechanical (spare parts excluded) assistance, bike storage after the finish, food services during and after the race, showers, bike parking, transmission of results by SMS and e-mail. The entry fee will be 51 euros from April 1st to 13th 2019, registrations’ closing date.
“We are up and running in our office and available both by phone and in person. As usual, we take care of the entries directly. Moreover, we are keeping on working to make the GF Gimondi safer: in the upcoming weeks we will sponsor sponsor a new training course, certified by the Ministry of the Interior, to train more signalling officers who will join the ones we formed last year. Our goal is to guarantee the participants the ultimate fun in maximum security” the organizer Giuseppe Manenti announces.
GF Gimondi’s 23rd official jersey, designed and made in Italy by Santini Maglificio Sportivo – based on the top-range Karma Evo model with the “Tribute to the Magnificent 7” limited edition special design – can also be purchased in a package with the race entry at 70 euros from November 5th, 2018 to March 31st, 2019, 83 euros from April 1st to 13th, 2019.
The 2019 GF Gimondi Bianchi will be held on the three classic routes – short (89,4 km), medium (128,8 km) and long (162,1 km) – personally drafted by Felice Gimondi, one of the event’s strong points deeply appreciated by many participants from all over the World.
