Bergamo’s icon: the Selvino climb

From Gimondi to Gotti, from Savoldelli to Baronchelli: “The climb of Bergamo’s champions”, as it has been named, is made up of 19 hairpin bends climbing from Nembro towards the village on the plateau, and each of them is dedicated to a local cycling icon.

The idea of dedicating these switchbacks to Bergamo’s cycling legends came from the Velo Club Selvino, a local association that organises events for cyclists and amateurs

“The climb of Bergamo’s champions”, as it has been named, is made up of 19 hairpin bends climbing from Nembro towards the village on the plateau, and each of them is dedicated to a local cycling icon.

Cyclist will find at each bend an information sign with altitude above sea level, kilometre distance and switchback number, as well as the name of the champion to whom it is dedicated. The last bend, number one, has been dedicated to Felice Gimondi, while the two preceding the summit are dedicated to two other Giro d’Italia winners, Ivan Gotti and Paolo Savoldelli.

This is an important initiative to raise awareness of cycling in our territory, and a great opportunity for amateurs who can feel closer to their idols.
