With the 3 routes of the BGY Airport Granfondo everyone can do it: 89/128/161 km

The BGY Airport Granfondo again this year confirms the three traditional routes. The amateur cycling event, which takes place under the aegis of the Italian Cycling Federation, is scheduled for Sunday, 5th May 2024 in Bergamo.

After the day of the eve with the distribution of the race numbers and packs and the Expo Village, hosted by the new location inside the new headquarters of Santini Cycling Wear, the start of the event will be always from Via Marzabotto, in the heart of the city of Bergamo, and the participants will be able to decide also during the race whether to opt for the short, the medium or the long route, all of them funny and very suggestive and able to highlight the beauties of the territory.

The three routes are suitable for all types of cyclists and different levels of preparation: they range from the short 89.4 km (1,400 m of elevation gain), through the medium 128.8 km (2,100 m of elevation gain), to the long 162.1 km (3,050 m of elevation gain). There are six valleys crossed (Val Cavallina, Valseriana, Val Serina, Val Brembana, Val Taleggio, Valle Imagna) and no less than 37 municipalities: after departing from Bergamo, the route passes through Gorle, Scanzorosciate, Cenate Sotto, Cenate Sopra, Trescore Balneario, Entratico, Luzzana, Borgo di Terzo, Vigano San Martino, Casazza, Gaverina Terme, Albino, Nembro, Selvino, Rigosa di Algua, Costa di Serina, Bracca, Zogno, San Pellegrino Terme, San Giovanni Bianco, Taleggio, Vedeseta, Val Brembilla, Sedrina, Berbenno, San Omobono Terme, Costa Valle Imagna, Roncola, Bedulita, Capulita, Capizzone, Strozza, Almenno San Salvatore, Villa d’Almè, Almè, Sorisole, Ponteranica and finally Bergamo again.

The route is common to all until km 71, in Ambria: after having climbed the legendary Selvino ascent, the short route deviates to return to the finish line, while the medium and long routes continue in the direction of Costa d’Olda and Forcella di Bura. Having completed the descent to Brembilla (km 111), the intermediate distance turns towards the finish line, while the bravest who decide to tackle the long distance will still have two more level climbs to face, first reaching Forcella di Berbenno and then Costa Valle Imagna, where the last swooping section will bring the caravan back towards the finish line in Bergamo.

The total uphill kilometres are approximately 23 for the shortest route, 33 for the medium route and close to 49 for the long route. For the GIM category, which allows any type of bike – muscular and electric, road, gravel and mtb – to participate in the Granfondo BGY, a dedicated grid will be provided and only the short distance will be available. There will be a total of 5 refreshment points along the route, plus the refreshment at the finish line, plus the final pasta party, which is included in the registration fee.
